Stones as art journal

During the river of stones month I went on a week’s holiday to the Aquitaine region of France. I knew that I would have more time to work on my stones while I was away (it was mainly a relaxing by the pool kind of trip) so I decided to experiment by combining small stones with art journalling.

Before leaving for France I hand-painted a selection of pages in muted colours that reminded me of the region (mainly greens and golds). I then drew a deliberately naieve pen sketch on each day of my trip, weaving the words of a small stone into the final drawing. On my return I painted the images. The result is a series of snapshots that really bring my memories of the trip to life.I hope you enjoy the results (click on an image to enlarge it).
